The
Governor of Tamil Nadu Sri Rama Mohan Rao in his inaugural speech
complemented the Trust in organising such an International Seminar
on a vital disease like cancer, which demands the attention
of the society for a thorough research to find out a better
treatment for cure. Seminars such as this bring practitioners
of different kinds of medicine therapies (modern as well as
alternative) together to address the problem of cancer. With
a real breakthrough in cancer treatment still eluding the medical
fraternity, ancient and other non-conventional therapies like
Yoga, Ayurveda and Homeopathy will be relevant in mitigating
pain and prolong the life of patients.
The Governor enlightened that such seminars attended by both
specialists from modern medicine as well as other types of therapies
would bring to light the latest advancements innovations and
trends in alternative therapies enabling the medical profession
to combat cancer better .He pointed out that a cancer patient
Anup Kumar in his book titled 'The joy of cancer' had revealed
that while he had opted for Allopathic as the basic treatment,
he complemented it by practicing Yoga, meditation and chanting
of "Vedic Mantras" with great positive impact. The
Governor further told that while choosing the line of treatment,
a patient should gather the will and adopt complementary therapies
to supplement modern treatment. He desired that doctors could
assist patients by developing strategies that could incorporate
such therapies along with other modes of treatment. Whatever
the approach might be the suffering cancer patients and their
kith and kin should get confidence that there are other treatments
other than Allopathic for providing great relief in the pain
caused by the disease. Trusts such as AMC Trust should focus
on creating confidence and a positive mental attitude among
patients. They should guide in the matter of diets and few habits
of the patients that would have major positive impact on their
quality of life.
